Lana Del Rey + A$AP Rocky

Just like a cat that rocks up with a bloody, half dead shrew hanging loose from its mouth, as a visceral gift to its owner, LDR has in the past week brought to us not one, but two gifts. Gifts that all together make us love that bitch all the more.  Firstly, we had the release of her National Anthem video with a cameo from A$AP Rocky as her presidential confidante, and then to add fuel to fire the release of the full version of her collaboration (AGAIN) with A$AP where she features as his bitch in My Bitch. Girl been busy.  This bout of La-$AP debauchery has truly wet a brothers willy, and I could not preach for a better collaboration at this moment in time. They’re like double denim, but it works.

However I do bring to light a minor complaint. Just as I wrote earlier this year, Lana falters with a severe lack of intelligibility in her lyrics and it became evident back in January with the release of Born To Die that Lana has a relentless obsession with the American dream and the American buck. With the vast majority of her record containing a lyric in dedication to her sickly Americatopia and her want for money, money, money. Lana’s patriotism and materialism surely goes beyond her lyrics with the release of the National Anthem video which pays homage to the JFK golden era. Lana playing a sumptuous first lady and A$AP taking the role of el presidente who in turn suffers a similar fate to that of old Kennedy. It’s arguably her best video to date, but seriously girl calm down with this Americana tribuana and incessant obsession with materialism and acknowledge the other 94.5 per cent of the world. Bitch, no your audience.
